Pidurangala Rock

Best Sunrise Hike & Sigiriya Views in Sri Lanka

For travellers seeking breath-taking views and a unique adventure, Pidurangala Rock is one of the most rewarding hikes in Sri Lanka. Located just a short distance from the world-famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Pidurangala offers a less crowded, more natural alternative that has become a must-visit attraction in the Cultural Triangle.

The hike to the top takes around 30–45 minutes, passing through a serene temple, reclining Buddha statue, and winding rocky paths. While the climb can be a little challenging, the reward is worth every step—at the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Sigiriya Rock rising majestically above the jungle, along with sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

Many travellers choose to hike Pidurangala at sunrise or sunset, when the skies turn golden and the scenery is at its most magical. Unlike Sigiriya, Pidurangala is far less crowded and more affordable, making it a favourite for backpackers, photographers, and adventure seekers alike.

If you are exploring Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, a visit to Pidurangala Rock is not to be missed. Whether for the incredible views, the peaceful atmosphere, or the unforgettable sunrise, Pidurangala is truly one of the top attractions in Sigiriya.
