Highland Beauty & World’s End Wonders

Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka at over 2,000 meters above sea level. This cloud-kissed plateau is famed for its dramatic cliffs, misty grasslands, dense cloud forests, and rich biodiversity, offering one of the most scenic highland escapes in the country.

Visitors typically travel by jeep or suitable vehicle up to the Pattipola gate, the highest railway station in Sri Lanka, where the journey to the plains begins. After purchasing Entrance Tickets at the Park Counter, you’ll embark on a 9 km circular nature trail that takes about 3–4 hours to complete. But the most rewarding way to explore Horton Plains is on foot especially in the early morning, before the mist begins to settle around midday

Key highlights along the trail include:

Mini World’s End – A smaller cliff with impressive early-morning views.

World’s End – The park’s most iconic viewpoint, featuring a jaw-dropping 870-meter drop to the valley below.

Baker’s Falls – A picturesque waterfall tucked inside the forest, ideal for photography and a refreshing stop.

As you hike through the serene paths, keep an eye out for wildlife such as Sambar deer, purple-faced langurs, and a variety of endemic bird species, making this a paradise for birdwatchers, nature lovers, and photographers.

Whether you’re capturing sunrise vistas or enjoying a peaceful trek above the clouds, Horton Plains is a must-visit attraction in Sri Lanka, combining adventure, natural beauty, and biodiversity in one unforgettable experience.
